Andrew and his Mommy

Well, we finally were able to connect. We met Andrew's birth mom for the second time on November 23, 2008...the exact date of Andrew's 11 month birthday. We framed two recent 5x7 pictures and gave her a Thanksgiving Day card from Andrew. The card was addressed to "Mommy". Inside the card, we gave her a gift certificate for Safeway (grocery store) and two wallet size pictures of Andrew as well.
Andrew was a bit scared at first, but warmed up to her quickly. The mommy could not keep her eyes off Andrew and she loved playing with him. We are going to meet up again in January, once we return from our trip to the Philippines. We went out for lunch and took some pictures.

You guys...this makes me teary. It's so beautiful that you are so open to Andrew's Mommy and that you recognize her role in his life and your own. As an adoptee, I think this is just amazing for Andrew, too.

You really are amazing. :o)

Laurel,
Thanks for your kind words. It's an amazing experience..and I can't even explain to you that when the birth mom received the card with the word "Mommy" on the outside of the envelope..how her expression was...I wish I took a picture of that very moment. It was a warm moment for all of us.

I can't explain to you how much we admire your story. We were not sure about the open adoption approach until we saw your blog. You have taken our fears and transformed them. Thank you so much for helping us make a clear decision
