Our Daughter, Emily

Fatherhood Friday at Dad Blogs
I'm using this Father Friday post as an update on our daughter Emily. Emily is developing on track. We had another ultra sound on 7/7/09. After our appointment, my partner and I took the birth mom food shopping. She has a follow up appointment with the doctor on July 14th. I told her that after that appointment, that I will take her clothes shopping to fit her growing waist line.

I honestly still can not believe that we are having a second child. We are very excited, don't get me wrong...but I'm getting kind of scared. Do I literally have to wait until my partner is home to run an errand like going to the grocery store? or will I be able to handle taking an infant and a toddler on my own?... I guess families do this all the time and I will find a way to balance this..but the thought is kind of scary.

The one thing I'm really excited about is buying new baby stuff...(ie: CLOTHES)...the baby girls department is HUGE in comparison to the baby boys. (I think this is the case for all ages in general).

Basically, fellow bloggers, I'm looking for positive feedback telling me we can do this and that it's not as difficult as I am beginning to stress about.

M2D, please don't stress! You can do it! My oldest was a couple of months shy of 3 when my youngest was born. Some how, it becomes natural to tote two around rather than one. Your brain shifts into thinking two instead of one. And allow Andrew to "help" you whenever he can. I bet he gets a kick out of being the big brother. I agree with you, you will have a lot more options dressing your baby girl. Yes, the women's department is always larger than the men's. What can I say?
Here's a hint to handling stress. Volunteer to do the grocery shopping . . . alone. You'll love the "me" time. Good luck!

Having only one, I cant offer up any advice, other than to say, you seem well equipped to handle it. And hey, if you need any girly clothes advice, you better count on Bella ;-)

LOL

Your parenting skills will evolve. There will of course be an adjustment period but it will become second nature.

I have a daughter myself...you will get lost in the forest that is the girl's clothing department.

You'll be just fine. Don't worry about it. It happens naturally and isn't as hard as it seems. Though, my oldest was older than Andrew is gonna be so I had it a little bit easier in that respect. But at the same time, Surprised Mom is right, nothing beats a quiet one person trip to the grocery store :)

Hey!

It does get more difficult. We have a five month old and a three year old. Life has to be better planned - and the schedules of the two wee ones can take over!

That said it is all very do-able and even fun! I was amazed at how rusty I was around handling a new born - and it was fun to rediscover all those lost skills! Heading out and about does present challenges - but newborns are fairly easy as long as you remember all of their accessories!

As surprised mom said - their is nothing like the feeling of getting out on your "own". Shopping or not!

I am very gladly oblivious to the world of girl's clothes. I do not think that my bank account could cope!

Parenting is tough work but you 2 are AWESOME parents and will have NO problems what so ever. I have 2 daughters and 1 son and I agree the girls cloths are cuter and more plentiful. This is a very exciting time. Relax and take it all in and enjoy!!! Happy Friday!

You will find a way to make it work with two. I rather go on my own if I can, because then I spend less money.
I remember when my boys were young and being upset, because of the choices for boys are just not there. I don't have any experience of dressing girls except for my crazy doll collection that I like to dress. I can't be the only one who buys baby clothes for their dolls. I am not crazy, because if I was then I wouldn't know it. When emily out grows her new born clothes can I have them. Haha :) Just kidding.

Having only had our second home for a week now, I'm not sure I'm qualified, but I'll give you my two cents anyway.

So far it seems that you are ramped into being ready to deal with the kids. Just like with the first one's development, the more he did, the more you were ready to do with him.

At first, the baby is docile and sleeps constantly. Then more awake, more adventurous, more trouble to keep up with. But just an exercise regimen, you work up to full exertion.

Good luck and have fun, Congratulations!

I'm glad things are going well with the pregnancy. I live in fear of the baby girl's department. If we have a girl next I will have to get a second job.

Be afraid... be very afraid. Or maybe that's just me cause I have 3 women in the house. There are always hair accessories, clothes, and other stuff laying around.

But I do have to say, watching the 2 kiddos interact with each other is one of the coolest things ever! Congrats!

You can DO it! Seriously, you can! Of course I don't have 2 so I don't know what I'm talking about, but it sounds like you'll be able to handle it just fine. Plus, Andrew will LOVE it! So will Emily...assuming she doesn't mind being hugged, kissed, and tugged on by her big brother at his will :)

Paul, it will work out. We are in that boat right now. It may take a few weeks, or 10, but I take our 2 out on my day off by myself often. You just have to be prepared! I take a thermus of hot water now to heat up a bottle, snacks for the toddler, and plenty of wet wipes!

I just followed you via the blogroll line. What a beautiful lil boy you have. Don't worry, we all get scared at first, but it will come naturally. Trust me you wont have time to stress, you just do it! And you'll do it just fine!

Our girls will be very close in age!

Buying girl clothes is so much more fun than stupid boy clothes.

Paul,
I will not lie to you. As the mother of 4 I believe that I am qualified to tell you this. The first week or two will take some getting use to but after that you will have no problem carting your infant and toddler to the market. It will become second nature.

My second and third child are only 14 months apart. At one point we did have 4 children sges 6 and under. It took some practice but I still went out in about. Otherwise, I think I would have lost my sanity.

Beside, just think you will not ever have to g the take the children to the gynecologist office with you! That is a huge plus for you!

BTW- I think that you and your partner are awesome parents. I know there is a great deal of controversy surrounding gays and lesbians raising children but as the child of addicts and alcoholics, I would have loved to have grown up in your household. The two of you sound like pretty cool people.
